The second edition of the Abu Dhabi Yacht Show opened its doors to visitors on Thursday (25th February 2010) at Yas Marina, with a flotilla of 30 super and megayachts – several of which are amongst the largest in the world – radiating around the spectacular Yas Hotel marina-front, and 3 of the largest vessels in attendance – the megayachts Alysia (85m), Loaloat (103m) and Lauren L (90m)– berthed alongside the Yas Yacht Club.
The yacht show, attended by a high-profile international visitor body of yachting enthusiasts and decision-makers, and a significant international press corps, is expected to focus the world’s attention on Abu Dhabi’s impressive superyacht credentials – including superb berthing and yacht-support facilities, and a complete marine lifestyle offering in the making, at
destinations such as Yas Island and the 45 other marinas of various sizes being developed as part of the Abu Dhabi Strategic Plan 2030.
Several companies have chosen this year’s edition of ADYS for high profile regional and global launches. Luxury Swedish boat manufacturer J Craft is launching its unique 12.5m Torpedo sports cruiser in the UAE, one of the most
glamourous crafts in attendance from St. Tropez. The sleek Torpedo cruiser has a sprint speed of 44 knots and is powered by two Volvo Penta IPS 500 engines and a transmission system which allows incredible manoeuvering sideways and through 360 degrees using a joystick. Designed and constructed by J Craft, the cruiser can sleep four passengers and one crewmember.
The yacht show will also see several new builds among the crafts making their regional debut. One of the most striking of these is the 48m motoryacht Australis, delivered in 2010, that arrived at the show direct from Oceanfast, Australia, and is the first time the craft is being offered for sale. Another 2010 build making an appearance at the show is the 62m Roma – a yacht of 1070 GRT with powerful Caterpillar 16 cylinder engines and four generators, and a performance up to 17 knots and a range of 6,000 miles at 12 knots. Impressive 2009 builds also berthed at Yas Marina for the show include the 65m Trident, 43m Le Yana, and 73m Silver Zwei.
Building on the tremendous industry response from the global yachting community to the inaugural show held in March 2009, and the solid business opportunities it provided, a large
contingent of exhibitors have chosen to return for the second edition. Among these are Burgess Yachts, Edmiston and Trinity Yachts among the fleet of global powerhouses with a presence at the show, and Abu Dhabi MAR Group and Gulf Craft among the major local players.
Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al
Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, ADYS will take place on February 25-27, 2010 at Yas Marina, Abu Dhabi and is the region’s only show dedicated to the super and megayacht industry comprising sailing and motorised yachts over 25 metres in length.
The Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA)
is the event’s headline sponsor, with Aldar Marinas signed on as the show’s associate sponsor, Bentley as the exclusive associate car sponsor and luxury Swiss watchmaker Ulysse Nardin the official watch sponsor. Other supporters include broadcast partners CNN and Al Arabiya, and The Times, Al Ittihad and The National as official newspapers.
